I´ve been in some interesting places after my last post. There are at least two very fine museums in Bygdøy, Fram and Kon-Tiki. The first one tells about polar explorers, Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen, famous Norwegians. Their extra strong polar ship Fram was built in 1892 and it was used during Amundsen´s Antarctic expedition in 1910-1912. It was an exceptional experience to walk inside it and think those men who lived there in those extreme conditions one century ago... a very special place. I just watched, it would have been waste of time to try to get that feeling in photos.
Kon-Tiki is also a very spectacular story. There is shown an authentic movie filmed by Thor Heyerdahl and his crew about their unbelievable 101 days expedition across the Pacific Ocean from South America to Polynesian islands on a raft that they built using balsa logs, ropes and other native materials. It was again impressive to look at that "ship" and think those men who sailed on it despite all disaster and death predictions. There is also a big papyrus craft named Ra II which Heyerdahl used in his expedition across the Atlantic Ocean.
In this week I was shooting in Lysebu Hotel near Holmenkollen. Lent had there a process for NRK, comparable to Finnish Yle. My task was to take an individual photo about all 20 participants "in action". It was very good practice in that kind of photography and I found it challenging and interesting. I used a flash reflected by the roof and found a grid very useful, because the light doesn´t then spread to areas that I don´t want to be lighted. I´m satisfied with some of those photos, but because the participants where only sometimes in good places to get pics about them, I didn´t manage to get so good looking ones about them all but still there is a useful photo about everybody.
Next day there were the leaders of NRK and my task was to shoot photos about them in interaction with others. I suppose that I managed it likewise. Earlier that day I was invited to Eivind´s home to shoot photos about his 7-weeks-old daughter Maria. The light was difficult in the beginning, flash light didn´t look good even reflected and we didn´t have much time, but we succeeded after all.
Jari´s PC, loaned from our school, broke down last week suddenly. So he has had many kinds of problems, but he got another loan PC from Lent and uploaded Photoshop trial version, so editing could to be continued. And I guess that work is still remaining lots of... let´s be patient.
More photos in my album.
