Toni, Iceland: The Honeymoon Is Over

Almost 4 weeks behind and 4 to go. Last week I was still "working" at the RÚV although there was not that much to do so I played with photoshop and watched what others do there e.g. here is a demo from Nicolas Heluani who makes 3D effects for tv shows. I've also found out there is no free lunch - got a stomach problem from the food offered at the RÚV - so typical when one travels to exotic foreign country.

Art and culture is everywhere. There are quite many art galleries at the city and at every corner there is art or statues. I also think that people - on average -  value more art and culture here than e.g in Finland. Many locals have creative professions and those who don't probably play an instrument, write poetry, etc. I visited the Museum of Photography to see pictures taken by Icelandic women. Ok - nothing fancy, but bought a book from another Icelandic photographer (Spessi aka Sigurtór Hallbjörnsson).

Weather. Ice is still here - more than in many years according to local news. So there is a smell of rotten grass everywhere caused by the layer of ice on top of it. Last wednesday the pollution level was highest since the eruptions in 2010-2011. It was caused by the salt and sand used on the roads and were now blowed to Reykjavik with a strong wind. So Icelandic weather is really fastly changing.

Here are some pics from last week.

Too much free time at work. No politics involved (this is the goverment building).

Good bye

Marika, Norway: Editing, editing, editing..

The third week here went completely with photo editing – and oh how many photos I’ve already taken! Somehow I even managed to add some personal projects to the editing process, and altogether it was very efficient week.

I did almost all of the editing at the office, and when I had breaks from sitting at the computer
I played the role of paparazzi

From Lent's monday meeting
It has been so weird weather here – first the rain melts all the snow here, and the other day all the snow is back. Degrees have been on both sides of zero, so it has been a little too warm for my clothes of choice from Finland – who would have guessed it really would be this warm in here!

Aleksanteri, Fuengirola: Speakeasy

Speakeasy Jazz Club is a place for real 1920s fans. The Club is not a big place, but surely is cozy and comely as it fits the name. Last month I found the place, and I have to say I've never seen anyone make as good looking and tasty drinks as I've found in here. You can't have a real 1920s bar without fancy drinks now, or can you? That combined with lively music of jazz, blues and even country gives you the perfect mood for spending good time with your friends in here.

That said, costs of the drinks are quite high in local standards but you have take account the amount of effort and love which this bartender puts into his work. Also it must be the smallest club I've ever seen before. Granted, I'm used to see a rather different place, when speaking of clubs compared to pubs. The small size of this place proves to me that it is the atmosphere and style, which differentiate real clubs from others.

These are just some pictures I deemed worthy for the place. I've posted some of them over Facebook but of course it is better to do it here.

Marika, Norway: Great second week

On the second week’s Monday morning I had to wake up early; we were going to go skiing that day! My roommate lent me his snowboard and clothes, which was so nice of him – and even though I looked a bit like some gangsta rapper with the baggy clothes, I didn’t mind. Yay, to the slopes!

Holmenkollen's winter wonderland

I met Therese at Oslo S station where we caught train to Drammen. There we met Tove and Astrid, and continued our trip with minibus to Kongsberg Skisenter. It has been sort of cloudy and rainy in Oslo, so it was absolutely a nice change (and a surprise!) to see the sun when we arrived to our destination.

In fact it was my first time on snowboard for four years, so I really had to make closer inspection to the slope’s snow situation in the middle of my first slide. With my face. Almost repeatedly. The inspection’s results were that the snow is cold and hard, and I had some nice bruises to take home with! Overall it was a fantastic day, and we had lots of fun together.

#myofficetoday

On Tuesday I was whole day at the office, and we had meetings concerning about last week’s tasks; how the things are going with Helsedirektoratet’s photos and documentation, and then I had to finish World Café (the stop animation –video thingy) editing till 12 o’clock. I got last files only two hours before the deadline, so I really had to rush with the rest of it. But in the end, I did it! And we actually got nice feedback from it.

#myofficetoday, part 2 (check out the delicious lunch!)

The week of early mornings continued on Wednesday, when my clock woke me up at 05:30. This time our destination was Drammen (again) where was held a network conference called Februar Konferansen. There were over 100 attendees, and my job was to document the whole event – speakers, workshops, the whole atmosphere.

I wanted to take these chairs with me. So colorful and vivid!

Since I knew it’d be a long day, I had my own goal to achieve during the day; to take as few photos as possible. I’ve learned that I tend to take too many photos on bigger events, and it slows down my editing process afterwards. The amount of spare photos isn’t too much when it comes to the point that I have only one set of photos to edit at that moment, but i.e. here I need to concentrate on many sets of photos at the same time – so if I could drop the amount of spare photos for like 35%, it’d speed up my editing process vastly. So I set a limit to the amount of my photos, and I got to say, I succeeded in it pretty good! In fact at first I was terrified if I’d had too few photos, but later while I was checking them on my computer I realized that I really had invested in quality, and my post-processing went even more smoothly. Self five!

Another workshop

End of the week went with photo editing, even the weekend (as of the last weekend as well) too. On Friday we had a great photo shoot at the office, when I was supposed to take pictures of Lent’s staff for their new upcoming website. We had almost too fun, and I just couldn’t stop giggling – how professional I am! But at least everybody was relaxed and the photos looked good and natural.

Aren't these guys just awesome? From top to bottom: Nora, Helene, Daniel and Therese.
I'll continue shooting the portraits later when others are back at the office.

To summarize, I had a very good week, and I might’ve rewarded myself with sushi for completing it so nicely. Again. I just love sushi! Someone might say that I’m going to have a sushi overdose – but I really do think that’s impossible. We’ll see!

Just can't get enough! Nom!
